Iframe Malware in Wordpress

August14

So, apparently, those comments and emails I received actually were a real issue? I was playing with my site today when I should have been working, and I upgraded to Firefox 3.0. When I did this, the next time I viewed my site I got a great big black screen with a Big Red Warning that my site might be infected. This was after I upgraded to 2.6 and imported my posts back in. The script was actually in my posts.

I guess google is doing this big campaign, and at the same time, wordpress was having a security issue with some of its versions, and I guess if someone knew what they were doing they could register on your blog then infect your posts with a hidden iframe script? I remember a few months back some jibberish registering as a user .. I was nice enough to even send them an email to tell them there was no need to register (and that I had deleted it), and if anything were private only, only friends and family would be allowed to view it. bastards. I don’t know if wordpress fixed the deal, but I guess if you turn off anyone can subscribe than you are secure? (hopefully)

Anyway, I found two iframe scripts in two different posts and deleted them. I then found a site where you could check do a check for parasites and it kept bringing up a hidden iframe almost the same as the deleted items? I ended up exporting my post into a text document and then searching for the “traffic statistics.” It brought up both the deleted script and also two other auto saved / revision posts that had the hidden script in it.

I deleted both posts and my site tested clean. What a big pain in the ass this has been today.

Here I am wanting to make my new template all pretty pretty, and I have to spend the whole day figuring out how to find crap I have no idea how to find. Google is great at telling you you have a problem and then they get all technical and dont really tell you what or how to get rid of it. Also..It would have been really nice as a subscribed google account holder, if they would have notified me that my site may be infected instead of just slapping a big ole Risk sticker on my site. Google’s taking over the internet and wow, we have no recourse.

Bottom line for me is to keep my wordpress software current with each revision and subscribe to the rss the feeds.

I really just wanted to post this here in case someone else like me is flagged and is searching “mostly to no avail” about what it is and how to fix it.

You can enter my site now :)

This goes into a whole new category here at LJB The Seriously, Seriously category. The Closet Companies response to the *B*B*B about my complaint.

Put down your drinks!

Dear N.

Ms. (Me) placed an order for 3 custom closets on 2/20/08. Her closets were installed on 3/22/08 by an experienced installer well within standard production time frame.

The customer had a few very minor drawer issues that (really bad closet company) tried to correct for her. (Owner’s Son), the production manager, even went to her home himself to inspect the job, Mrs. (me’s) contractor who insisted that the closets were not level met him. (Owner’s son), using the contractor’s level and with the contractor present went from closet to closet and showed him that they were indeed level.

(Really bad closet company) manufactured Mrs. (Me’s) closets as ordered. Installed them within a reasonable amount of time and made every effort to try and satisfy the customer. It is unfortunate that whatever we did it did not seem to be enough.

Because Mrs. (me) was being so unreasonable, Mr. (Owner) decided to go against company policy as a show of good faith and it was decided to uninstall her closets and refund all monies received from her.

Sincerely,

(Ms. liar pants)
Customer Service Director

Copy of customer’s own email photo of closet (minus (5) of the most damaging photos, by the way) showing only minor issues and well installed closets. (copied several times and scanned in black and white so you can barely seem them).
Copy of customers written retraction given to installer upon removal of closets and refund.

My Response.

N,

Thank you for looking into this matter. I am thankful that we, as consumers, have a place to voice complaints and seek help when dealing with companies like Really Bad Closet Company).

While it is true that the matter is resolved, I am sorry to read the response of (Ms. liar pants), which only very faintly speaks of any truth. I am also sorry to see the cut and paste job of the picture email that I sent to (owner’s wife). It indeed does give the impression of little damage. In response to (Ms. liar pants) letter I would like to state the following.

Mr. (owner’s son) originally installed the closet systems, and at no time after the initial installation date did he return to my home. As a matter of fact, only one time after that date did he ever call me, he left a voice mail on (date), stating that he knew the first closet was messed up and that he would call me on Monday Morning to schedule a time to reinstall it. He never called again. The contractor that (Ms. liar pants) speaks of was actually my BIL, who, knowing I was getting upset, came over and gave them (owner’s son and installer) my level to see if the closets in the office were level. They were level. The middle support was not square. (Installer) and my BILnever left the office.

I am enclosing a running script that I had been keeping regarding the closets. I originally started keeping this dialog on the back of my contract, and moved it to a letter after I contacted the B*B*B. I maintained it through out.

I am also enclosing the original email that I sent (owner’s wife), with all the pictures, the ones (Ms. liar pants) decided to leave out of her response. They are a good representation of the damage they installed.

I do consider this matter resolved, since I did receive a refund and had the closets removed. It is a shame however that (Really bad closet company) lied regarding the whole situation, which means that they gained nothing from the experience and will again treat future customers with disrespect and poor customer service. I would hope that this situation would have some bearing on their standing with the B*B*B.

Cordially,

(REALLY PISSED OFF CUSTOMER)

Running Dialog of my attempt to resolve the issue with (Really bad closet company).

Oh, and I also copied (really bad closet company with both the pictures and the running dialog. You know, to jog their memory to the truth.

I am nice like that.

Matter Resolved.

Really.
